Shibuya Startups K.K. (“Company”) posts this Privacy Policy and respects the privacy of user companies, affiliated companies, organizations, etc. (collectively “User Companies”) that participate in seminars and/or workshops, and use other services provided in accordance with this Privacy Policy (collectively “Service(s)”), as well as individuals who use the Services (“Individual Users”). The Company will pay close attention to the management of Individual User’s personal information and handle it with due care.

1.Personal Information

“Personal Information” refers to personal information (kojin joho) as defined by the Act on the Protection of Personal Information (Act No. 57 of 2003, “Act on the Protection of Personal Information”), being information about a living individual which can identify the specific individual by name, date of birth or other description contained in such information, or includes an individual identification code.

2.Acquisition of Personal Information

The Company acquires the following information as personal information about individuals (“Personal Information”):

  1. Information related to contact details such as name, work email address, telephone number, address, etc.; and
  2. Other information related to the use of the Services.
3.Purpose of Using Personal Information

The purpose of using Personal Information is as follows. The Company will not use Personal Information beyond the purposes defined in this Privacy Policy:

  1. To provide the Services;
  2. To improve and enhance the content of the Services or to develop new services;
  3. For communications related to the use of the Services, including sending newsletters and various announcements;
  4. To provide Personal Information to User Companies, based on the Individual Users’ consent or application;
  5. For improving the Services, developing new services, and marketing;
  6. To conduct campaigns, surveys, monitoring, interviews, etc.;
  7. For the payment of rewards from the Company;
  8. To confirm and respond to opinions and inquiries related to the Services;
  9. For updating and changing Personal Information registered with the Company;
  10. For applications, reception, and communications to participants of events conducted by the Company; and
  11. For the Company’s recruitment activities.
4.Voluntary Provision of Personal Information

The Company will ask the Individual Users to provide Personal Information necessary to achieve the purpose of its usage. It is not mandatory to respond to all queries; however, if an Individual User does not answer specific questions, such Individual User may not be able to use the Service.

5.Provision of Personal Information to Third Parties

In principle, the Company will not provide Personal Information to any third parties without a consent of the Individual User concerned. However, Personal Information may be provided without the Individual User’s consent in the following cases, within the limits not contrary to relevant laws and regulations:

  1. When in accordance with laws and regulations;
  2. When necessary to protect life, body, or property of an individual and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the person;
  3. When particularly necessary for improving public health or promoting the sound growth of children and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the person;
  4. When necessary to assist a national institution or a local public entity or their entrusted party in executing the affairs prescribed by laws and regulations, and obtaining the person’s consent could impede the execution of such affairs;
  5. When personal data is provided in connection with an outsourcing of personal data by a business operator who handles personal information, to the extent necessary for achieving the purpose of use; and
  6. When personal data is provided in connection with merger or other reasons for the succession of business.
6.Joint Usage

The Company does not jointly use personal data acquired in the Service. If the Company decides to jointly use personal data in the future, the Company will make an announcement in its policy or through other appropriate methods.

7.Outsourcing of Personal Information Processing

The Company may outsource part or all of the Personal Information handling operations.

8.Restrictions on Acquiring Sensitive Personal Information

In principle, the Company will not acquire Personal Information containing the following contents. However, this does not apply when an Individual User provides the information voluntarily, such as:

  1. Matters concerning thoughts, beliefs, and religion;
  2. Matters concerning race, ethnicity, family origin, domicile (excluding information about the prefecture/state of residence), physical and mental disabilities, criminal history, and other matters that may cause social discrimination;
  3. Matters concerning the right of workers to organize, collective bargaining, and other collective actions;
  4. Matters concerning participation in collective demonstrations, exercising the right to petition, and exercising other political rights; and
  5. Matters concerning health care and medical treatment.
9.Disclosure, Correction, etc., of Personal Data in Possession

The Company will comply with laws and regulations and respond to requests for notification of the purpose of use, disclosure, modification (correction, addition, or deletion), suspension of use, etc. (suspension or deletion), and cessation of provision to third parties of personal data possessed, from the person or their representative. 10.Identity Verification

The Company will verify the identity of a member who makes a disclosure, correction, deletion, or suspension request of the use of Personal Information by using identifiable information (name, address, telephone number, email address). However, the Company would not be responsible when someone other than the owner of the Personal Information obtains and uses the identifiable information.

11.Changes to This Policy

The Company may review operations regarding the handling of Personal Information and, if necessary, change all or part of this Privacy Policy. Any changes to this policy will be announced through the Service. In such case, the handling of Individual Users’ Personal Information will be in accordance to the changed privacy policy.
